Temper tantrums are intense emotional outbursts that are common in children, particularly in toddlers and preschoolers. A temper tantrum may involve crying, screaming, kicking, hitting, and throwing objects, and is usually triggered by frustration, anger, or fatigue. In some cases, temper tantrums may be a symptom of a behavioral or developmental disorder, such as autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Risperidone is sometimes used to reduce irritability, including temper tantrums, in children and adolescents with ASD.
