PTSD stands for Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. It is a mental health disorder that can develop after experiencing or witnessing a traumatic event. Symptoms of PTSD can include intrusive and distressing thoughts or memories about the traumatic event, avoidance of reminders of the event, negative changes in mood and thinking, and hypervigilance or being easily startled. PTSD can significantly affect daily functioning and quality of life. Treatment options include therapy, medication, or a combination of both.
