Combination pills are a type of birth control pill that contain both estrogen and progestin hormones. They work by preventing ovulation, thickening cervical mucus, and thinning the lining of the uterus to prevent fertilization and implantation. They are taken daily and are over 99% effective at preventing pregnancy when used correctly. Some common brand names of combination pills include Ortho Tri-Cyclen, Yaz, and Lo Loestrin Fe.
