Escitalopram

Escitalopram is a medication used to treat depression and anxiety disorders. It belongs to a class of medications called selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs), which work by increasing the levels of serotonin in the brain. Serotonin is a neurotransmitter that is involved in regulating mood, sleep, appetite, and other bodily functions.

Escitalopram is prescribed to treat major depressive disorder, generalized anxiety disorder, panic disorder, and social anxiety disorder. It is available in tablet form and is typically taken once a day, with or without food.

Like other SSRIs, escitalopram may take several weeks to start working effectively, and it is important to continue taking it as prescribed even if symptoms do not improve immediately. Common side effects of escitalopram may include nausea, dry mouth, dizziness, headache, and difficulty sleeping. It is important to discuss any side effects or concerns with a healthcare provider.
