There is some evidence to suggest that taking paroxetine and other selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) during the first trimester of pregnancy may increase the risk of certain birth defects. These defects can include heart defects, lung defects, and other developmental abnormalities. If you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant and are taking paroxetine or any other medication, it is important to discuss the risks and benefits of medication use with your healthcare provider.
